“[Ethan is] a supercool, deeply kind brainiac—imagine a very chilled-out blend of Pauls Auster and Rudd—who is also to-the-cushion born.” -Sally Singer,

You can imagine, then, why we wanted Ethan Nichtern to be part of the second annual Love Yoga Fest! As one of the most accessible, innovative and experienced of the current generation of Buddhist teachers, Ethan is set to bring his fresh take on the basic existential experience we share to our new LYF Talks offering.

In a recent profile by The New York Times, Ethan explains, “Buddhism is one of the most psychological of the spiritual traditions, it’s about self-inquiry and self empowerment.” In his Saturday workshop The Road Home, we’ll dive into this idea with Ethan, drawing on his recently published third book, “The Road Home: A Contemporary Exploration of the Buddhist Path.” {editorial note: We are reading it, and it is fantastic. We’ll have copies you can purchase and Ethan will sign them!}

If the statement “I want to meditate but I just don’t know how” resonates, Ethan’s Meditation 101 on Sunday is for you. This workshop is designed to provide a gentle introduction to the foundations of meditation. Through his guidance you will come to understand meditation and how to bring it into your own life through practical application.

In addition to his writing, Ethan teaches meditation and Buddhist psychology classes and workshops in New York City and around the world. He is also the founder of the Interdependence Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to Secular Buddhist practice and transformational activism and arts.

Ethan has been featured on CNN, NPR, ABC/Yahoo News,, Business Insider, Nautilus, and Vice to discuss Buddhism and meditation in the 21st Century. His articles have been featured on The Huffington Post, Beliefnet, Shambhala Sun, Tricycle Magazine, BuddhaDharma Magazine, Reality Sandwich, as well as other online publications. Read Ethan’s full bio and have a listen to his interview with ABC’s Dan Harris.
